NaNoWriMo Journal – Day 9: Getting Back In The Groove

Current Word Count: 37534

Hello All!

That was a better day. I’m still not hitting the numbers I keep hoping for, but over 4K isn’t bad. I’m now well outside of what I had fully prepared in my outline. This is uncharted water, and I only have a vague idea where I’m going with it. But I’ll be damned if it isn’t coming together!

What I’m writing is a very skeletal first draft, mainly dialogue and action beats, but it’s coming out really well! The lines are snappy and the action thrilling. If I do say so myself. :p

At this rate, I’ll hit 50K on Friday, but I’ll still need more time to polish this up. Once I add in better descriptions and fill gaps I’m thinking this is a 65K book. I keep hearing about authors who overwrite and have to make cuts. I have no idea what that’s like. Just another thing to work on I guess, I’ll need more practice to get my daily word counts up and maybe part of that is being more descriptive in my first draft. We’ll have to see.

Thanks for stopping by!
