NaNoWriMo Journal – Day 3: Finally Hitting My Stride

Current Word Count: 15861

Hello All!

That’s more like it! I had a slow/late start today and was interrupted multiple times, but my overall output was much higher.

It helped that two of the chapters I was working on today were adaptations/revisions of stories I had written before, so I had the whole blueprint laid out before me. But I think that balanced the interruptions and lack of time to work. So we’ll see if I can repeat the same output tomorrow with fresher material.

It’s also clear that I will be under 50K when I finish my planned content. My first drafts are often mostly dialogue, and it shows in my word count to chapter ratio. So the ending days of my NaNoWriMo journey will probably consist of me adding in all my optional content and then bulking up the rest.

So, even in these early days, I’ve learned a few things about my writing style and approaching these kinds of challenges.

Because I’m starting to fall into a grove, I might incorporate writing partners into these daily logs. Regulars will know what that means, but for any new readers, I paint miniatures while I write. I find it good to keep me on task while I brainstorm and the various monsters I paint often inspire me. I’ve painted a literal pile of minis in the last couple of weeks, and I’d love to start sharing them.

As always, let me know if you’re having any luck with your NaNo challenge, and shoot me a message if you have any tips or tricks!
